What this test measures

Queen palms are tall ornamental trees common in warm, subtropical regions. They produce abundant pollen, and in areas where they are widely planted, that pollen can be a meaningful seasonal allergen. Sensitive people may notice sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and sometimes cough or wheeze when the trees release pollen.

The test measures allergen-specific IgE in serum using a laboratory immunoassay. A single blood draw is enough, and the laboratory reports the queen palm-specific IgE level together with a reactivity class. Because tree pollens can overlap in timing and allergens, results are often reviewed with other tree and grass pollen tests in the same panel.

A positive result indicates that the immune system has made antibodies against the pollen. It does not confirm that this tree is causing symptoms, since sensitization differs from clinical allergy.
