German Roach Allergy Test in Florida

What this test measures

This test detects allergen-specific immunoglobulin E against German cockroach proteins. The German cockroach is the species most often found indoors and thrives in warm, humid spaces with food and water access. Its allergens accumulate in household dust and can provoke sneezing, nasal congestion, eye irritation, and asthma symptoms. The immunoassay quantifies antibody levels and assigns an IgE class.

A blood sample is collected by venipuncture and analyzed in a laboratory. Results are reported in kilounits per liter, with total IgE and eosinophil counts sometimes included as supporting information. Because American and German cockroaches carry partially distinct allergens, testing both species can clarify whether one or both contribute to symptoms. This is helpful when planning targeted pest control.

People order this test when indoor allergy or asthma symptoms persist, particularly in housing where cockroaches are difficult to eliminate. It can also be part of an allergy workup before starting environmental control measures. Testing establishes sensitization rather than a diagnosis, so a qualified healthcare provider should interpret it with your symptom history and living conditions.
