Comprehensive Heavy Metals Urine Test in California

What this test measures

A comprehensive urine metal panel looks for several toxic elements at once, which is useful when the source of exposure is uncertain or when multiple metals may be involved. Urine reflects recent elimination for many metals and is a common sample for arsenic, cadmium, and mercury testing. Creatinine adjustment helps account for how dilute or concentrated the urine is.

The sample is collected at a laboratory according to the collection instructions, which may specify a spot, first-morning, or timed collection. The panel reports each metal separately along with creatinine. Depending on the laboratory, arsenic or mercury speciation may be available to distinguish forms of the element with different health significance.

People order this panel after suspecting exposure through water, food, occupational materials, or hobbies, or when a clinician wants a comprehensive baseline. Results can be affected by recent meals and hydration, so they are interpreted alongside the collection details and the person's history.
