Comprehensive Animal Allergy Testing in California

What this test measures

This panel measures allergen-specific immunoglobulin E against five animal allergens in a single blood draw. Feather allergens come from bird plumage, dander consists of tiny skin flakes from mammals, and pigeon droppings contain proteins that can become airborne in dust. Reactions can include nasal congestion, sneezing, eye irritation, coughing, or skin symptoms. Each allergen is reported separately so patterns can be identified.

A blood sample is collected by venipuncture at a partner laboratory and analyzed with immunoassays. Results are reported in kilounits per liter with an IgE class for each allergen, and total IgE may be included as supporting context. Animal allergens can also be encountered indirectly through clothing, upholstery, and dust, so exposure is not always obvious. Testing several animals together helps clarify which sensitizations are present.

People order this panel when symptoms occur around specific animals, on farms, or in settings where birds or livestock are present. It can help guide avoidance measures and inform an allergy management discussion with a clinician. The panel shows sensitization rather than confirming a clinical allergy, so results should be interpreted alongside your symptoms and environment.
