Psilocybin Mushroom Urine Panel in Arizona

What this test measures

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring compound produced by several mushroom species, and it is converted in the body to psilocin, which is pharmacologically active. Because psilocin is the form found in biological samples, laboratories often target it directly. Unlike common drugs of abuse, mushroom compounds are not included in most routine drug screening panels, so testing is usually requested specifically.

A urine sample is collected for this test, and analysis may use a targeted immunoassay or a chromatographic method, depending on the laboratory. Confirmatory analysis by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry can identify psilocin and report a concentration. Specimen validity checks may be included when required by the testing program.

This test may be ordered as part of an authorized clinical or testing process and should be requested through an appropriate provider or program. The compounds from hallucinogenic mushrooms are generally cleared relatively quickly, so detection windows are short compared with many other substances. Results are interpreted by the ordering professional.
