Green Nimitti Midge Allergy Panel in Arizona

What this test measures

Green nimitti midges are small flying insects whose airborne body fragments and proteins can act as allergens. Sensitive people may develop respiratory, eye, or skin symptoms when midge particles are inhaled or contact the skin. The test measures specific IgE antibodies formed against midge allergens.

A standard blood draw provides the serum used for analysis. Laboratories report midge-specific IgE together with total IgE and, in some panels, markers for shared invertebrate proteins such as tropomyosin. These additional markers help a clinician judge whether a positive result reflects true midge sensitization or cross-reactivity with other insects.

Testing is usually requested when symptoms follow clear periods of midge exposure, or when other causes of seasonal and environmental symptoms have been excluded. The report is one input among several, and a healthcare provider decides how it fits with the exposure pattern and physical findings.
