Fentanyl Confirmation Urine Test in Arizona

What this test measures

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid used medically for severe pain and also present in illicit drug supplies. Because it is potent and can appear at low concentrations, dedicated testing is often needed. Standard opiate immunoassays may not reliably detect fentanyl, so a targeted screen with confirmation gives a clearer result.

The sample is urine, collected at a laboratory or collection site. An initial immunoassay screens for fentanyl and related compounds such as norfentanyl, a metabolite. Any presumptive finding is confirmed using a more specific technique, typically mass spectrometry, which identifies the substance with greater certainty.

Testing may be requested for workplace programs, legal matters, clinical monitoring, or personal awareness. A detection window in urine is generally short compared with some other sample types and varies with dose and frequency of use. A qualified healthcare provider interprets results in context.
